Tips for Parents/Guarantors

As a parent and/or guarantor, we encourage you to review the acceptance package with your dependent to ensure that both of you fully understand the payment schedules, deadlines, and the rules and regulations of Residence.

At Residence, we treat each student as an adult. For many, this will be their first time living independently. Our staff are here to support students in this transition and to assist with their personal growth and development.

Please note that all statements, invoices, and refunds are issued directly to the student. Due to privacy regulations, we are unable to share student account information without their consent. Refund cheques are made payable to the student, and it is their responsibility to meet all deadlines. We believe this approach helps students develop strong financial and personal responsibility skills.

We strongly recommend that parents and guarantors, if possible, take a tour of the Residence to better understand where their dependent will be living. We welcome visits and are happy to provide tours by appointment, subject to availability.

If your dependent is experiencing any challenges or concerns, please encourage them to speak directly with Residence staff. Our team is trained to handle a wide range of situations and is committed to supporting every student’s experience.

Living away from home for the first time can be both exciting and challenging. Small gestures, such as sending a card or message, can make a meaningful difference as students adjust to academic pressures and independent living.

During the first few weeks of college, students are often very busy adjusting to their new environment, balancing academics, social activities, and daily responsibilities. As a result, they may not always be immediately available to respond to calls or messages.

Roommate relationships are another common part of the Residence experience. It is normal for students to go through an adjustment period when living with someone new. If concerns arise, students are encouraged to connect with their Resident Advisor (RA), as this is an important step in developing communication and conflict resolution skills.

Resident Advisors are fellow students who are trained to serve as resources and mentors within the community. They undergo extensive training to effectively support residents and respond to a variety of situations.
